Moisture
Recognition of unwanted moisture by Empire Roofing & More
Moisture is part of our everyday lives. Like most things, too little is detrimental and too much is devastating. Moisture is inevitable. It can come from everyday uses: cooking, washing, cleaning, sinks, toilets, showers, cooking, and perhaps an unconsidered source: heating and cooling systems.
Empire Roofing & More knows how to identify sources of moisture!
Moisture turns to vapor, and it travels up and out, making its way to the non-conditioned spaces of the attic through natural circulation. It can become trapped in poorly ventilated, non-conditioned spaces: interior walls, ceilings, and semi-sealed spaces. During periods of climate change, moisture condenses on the interior of roofing decks. As the condensation accumulates, water droplets form and eventually collect, creating the conditions for moisture to infiltrate structural elements.
Empire Roofing & More knows how to remove or mitigate transport of moisture!
Retained and entrapped moisture can be a short term and long term danger, creating dangerous and unhealthy conditions. These conditions can lead to structural rot that can weaken and misshape plywood, OSB (oriented strand board) and structural elements. Further, these conditions support the unwanted growth of mildew and mold, including “black mold”. Further, retained moisture can reduce the insulation value (R-value) of insulation, reducing insulation effectiveness, increasing heat loss, and increasing heating and air conditioning costs.
